Mason City Motor Speedway’s Tuner division has a new title sponsor with the addition of Rookies Rockin’ Sports Bar in downtown Clear Lake, Iowa.

The Rookies Rockin’ Tuners (formerly known as Sport Compacts) will be racing Sunday nights during Mason City Motor Speedway’s weekly shows.

“We are coming out with a great payout for this class and hoping to put a lot of cars on the track,” said promoter Al Hejna. “Not only is the weekly payout double than at most tracks, but the track champion will receive more than last year’s national champion did in the same division.”

Along with the weekly program, the Rookies Rockin’ Tuners will be featured on Wednesday, July 20, on opening night of the North Iowa Fair in a special $1,000-to-win event for the class. The fair event will also feature the Meyer Motorsports Figure 8 Series. A full fair schedule of events will be unveiled soon.

The rules package for the Rookies Rockin’ Tuners will be similar to race tracks in the area.

Opening night on Sunday, May 15, will feature Budweiser USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and Rookies Rockin’ Tuners. Adult spectator admission is $10. Juniors ages 13-16 and seniors 65 and older get in for just $8. Kids 12 and under are free. Pits passes are $25. The pit gate opens at 4 p.m., spectator gate opens at 5, drivers meeting is set for 6, hot laps begin at 6:30 and the first green flag of the 2016 season waves at 7 p.m.

An open test ‘n’ tune practice day for all drivers and divisions is set for Sunday, May 1, from 4-7 p.m.

A large of contingent of fair board members, staff and volunteers are in the midst of dozens of changes to the racing surface and associated amenities at the historic North Iowa Fair facility. Tons of new clay will breathe life back into the track that will be reshaped in an effort to produce more side-by-side racing action for the paid attendees.

Various special events are also in the planning stages, including shows featuring the USMTS Modifieds, World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Models, FVP National Sprint League, Monster Trucks featuring Big Foot and Bounty Hunter, freestyle motocross, demolition derby and more.
