ABOUT MASON CITY MOTOR SPEEDWAY
After a difficult year that saw the track end its 2015 season abruptly, the landscape changed at the facility when lifelong Mason City resident and standout dirt modified racer Al Hejna became the new promoter of the dirt track located at the North Iowa Events Center, and the former I-35 Speedway got a new name in Mason City Motor Speedway.
Hejna’s son-in-law, Ryne Staley, became General Manager and co-promoter of the events at the facility, along with his father, Todd Staley, who owns and operates the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) and United States Racing Association (USRA).
After a failed sanctioning effort, years of poor track conditions and a dwindling car count and fans base, the USRA began sanctioning weekly racing at the track in 2016 as the new captains of the ship began offering some of the best weekly racing purses in the state of Iowa.
Today, the Staley family manage the day-to-day operations at the facility while Hejna has returned to the cockpit and focuses on running his multiple business in Clear Lake, Iowa, alongside his brother and former racer Mike Hejna. Eventually, the track was reduced from the big half-mile oval to a racy high-banked 1/3-mile oval which continues to see improvements every week.
The Mason City Motor Speedway is a 1/3-mile clay oval located 5.1 miles east of I-35 at exit 194 on SR 122 (at the North Iowa Fairgrounds). For more information, call (515) 832-6000 or check out MasonCityMotorSpeedway.com. You can also follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Drivers can register online here or save enough for a gallon of diesel fuel and call (515) 832-7944 to get registered. You can also download the entry form here and then mail or fax your completed form. Entry fees will increase on race day. All credit card transactions add $10 service fee.
Racers will get to choose either Wednesday night or Thursday night to qualify. The top six each night will be locked into Saturday's 78-lap $25,000-to-win finale. Wednesday will be qualifying for the inside row and Thursday is for middle-row qualifiers. Drivers that purchase a mulligan will get the chance to re-qualify on Friday night, and those top six will fill the outside lane of Saturday's championship which will start three-wide. Mulligan must be purchased before the first race on Wednesday night.
Lap sponsorships are $1,000 per lap. There will be $37,500 ($25,000 in lap money and $12,500 in draw money) awarded to drivers and $37,500 to spectators and sponsors. All lap sponsors are in a drawing for 15 winners among the 75 lap sponsors. The winners on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will each draw five (5) numbers from 1-75 and the sponsors of those laps will be in Saturday’s drawing (15 lap sponsors total). For fans, two (2) adults each on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday plus two from Saturday’s 50/50 drawing will be in the drawing (15 lap sponsors + 10 fans = 25 eligible winners).
With the purchase of your entry fee, racers get one free entry into the drawing for some pretty cool gifts that will be given away. If you purchase a mulligan you will get another entry into the same drawing. Tickets will also be sold for more chances to win great gifts. On the top of that list will be a brand new USMTS 415 spec motor built by Stoen Race Engines—a $25,000 value. Several USMTS sponsors have already stepped up to make this show explode, and many more are expected to jump on board before race day. Extra tickets for the drawing will be on sale at $20 per ticket or six for $100.
Officials will also auction off two spots with an opening bid of $2,500. Any extra money above $2,500 will be divided equally among drivers finishing third through 33rd. One final spot will be added by a ticket raffle. Tickets will be $10 each, 6 for $50 or 15 for $100. The winner can put in the driver they want into the 33rd starting spot.
During driver introductions on Saturday, five (5) random drivers will draw five (5) random names of fans with each fan will getting $2,500. The driver that wins Saturday’s A-Main will draw a random name in the final drawing and that person will win $25,000. Tentatively, we plan to auction two starting spots in Saturday’s A-Main with all money above the $2,500 start money will be split evenly between drivers finishing fifth and back. We will also sell tickets for $10 per ticket (6 for $50 or 15 for $100) and will add one (1) driver off ticket sales to create a 33-car A-Main starting field.
All USMTS rules apply except where noted. All drivers draw Wednesday prior to the drivers meeting. Qualifying will be done through group qualifying (time trials), heat race passing points and main events. All competitors will get 100 USMTS points for the weekend. No provisionals—you must earn your way into each race. RACEceivers and AMB transponders are mandatory and available at sign-in.
For its Silver Anniversary season, the Summit USMTS National Championship presented by RacinDirt currently features 45 nights of racing at 15 of America's premier dirt track racing venues in nine states. The winners of those events are set to earn more than $300,000 with nearly $2 million in purses and prize money earmarked for the 2023 campaign.
